The Green Renaissance will bring together an unprecedented roster of entrepreneurs, business and financial leaders with the authority and means to influence as well as, more importantly, implement decisive new strategies for ensuring long-term social, economic and environmental security for the planet and global community.
The discussions will take place in the presence of leading regional and international Statesmen.
Objectives
The initiative will seek to expedite the securitization of ecosystems in a manner that benefits the range of stakeholders on an unprecedented scale.
Key Points
- To facilitate the introduction of the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). VCM was developed in response to the mounting pressure to speed up climate change mitigation amidst slow and complicated disbursement of mitigation under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol;
- Discussion on the implementation of VCM will focus on three case studies: two drawn from Borneo (The District of Malinau in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, and the State of Sabah, Malaysia), and one from the AMAZON region of Brazil;
- To demonstrate a pilot approach to the securitization of ecosystems in the District of MALINAU, as a possible operational model – one which will not only speed up the process and accessibility of carbon trading, but also increase the leverage of the meeting through practical example;
- To showcase the FIRST TRANSACTION of business in the field of forest protection, an area that has never been managed intensively by the government of Indonesia. By promoting best practice management planning and implementation, forests may be better safeguarded against degradation and ill-conceived conversion. This approach is consistent with the concept of “Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation” (REDD) that is currently being widely advocated, and which will be prominently addressed during the COP 13 meetings;
- To facilitate the announcement and promotion of a ‘Climate Change Day’ Declaration.
Background presentations and Case Studies will draw on the presence and experience of Statesmen, Government representatives and leading conservationists - as well as indigenous stakeholders from some of the world's most threatened but potentially most valuable Ecosystems. These notably include the critical 'ABC' of rainforest reserves - Amazon, Borneo and Congo.
The meetings will be outcome oriented, based on identifying real investment opportunities and consequent engagement by Corporate Citizens - who will further be provided with presentation, exhibition and and other facilities to showcase their commitment.
